The leaves are full of oil sacks and when they are crushed and distilled the essential oil is the result. Peppermint is used for so many things. It is cooling. For this purpose I have used it to reduce fevers by simply applying it to my forehead and the back of my neck. For my little boy (he's one) I apply it to the bottoms of his feet and then put socks on. It can also be used to ease hot flashes as a part of menopause by applying it to the back of the neck. Apply Peppermint oil combined with Lavender oil to your temples and back of neck for a headache. A drop applied to the roof of your mouth will ease congestion and help you breath again. It is also very reliable for aiding with digestion. I used to drink Peppermint tea when my stomach was queasy, but Peppermint Essential Oil is so potent that one drop is equivalent to 28 cups of tea! Peppermint oil is part of the doTERRA blends Breath that can be used for congestion and asthma (my mom can't leave the house without it), DigestZen for digestive aids, Past Tense for headaches, and Slim and Sassy to lose weight (the Peppermint helps curb appetite and feel more satiated after meals). It is such an amazing Essential Oil and is smells so good!

To top it all off, it is really inexpensive. It costs about $0.23 to take care of a fever. Or $0.32 for a headache. And best of all it is natural and safe with no side affects! So you can know you are taking care of your family and drug free. What more could you ask for?

Lavender

Lavender has so many great properties and benefits. Let me share just a few.

Lavender is great calming oil. It can be used for stretch marks, cuts and scrapes, bruises, insect bites and stings, burns, anxiety, stress, depression, asthma, and so much more. I have even heard of it helping with pink eye by applying it on the eye socket bone around the eye (be careful to avoid getting it in the eyes!). Lavender is such a universal oil, when in doubt pull out your lavender oil.

Lavender can be applied topically, taken internally either on the tongue or in a capsule, or diffused aromatically. It can create an overall sense of calm and peace due to its calming of health and sense of overall emotional balance.

Time To Get the Word Out

Have you ever heard of doTERRA Essential Oils? If you have, you are ahead of me. I just learned about them in January of this year. I have always preferred natural remedies first, but I didn't know much. In the last few months I have spent a lot of time studying the uses of oils and the benefits to our bodies. It is amazing to learn how Essential Oils can help with so many different ailments. I am grateful to know that I can go to a doctor for a serious problem, but for the minor ones there are many things I can do. As a mom, it means so much to me to be in control and take care of my family in every way I can. I am excited to learn more about doTERRA and I will share what I learn on this blog.

So what is an Essential Oil? It is a natural compound found in plants. It is either steam distilled or cold pressed extraction. The oils have a powerful, safe benefit without the side effects. Essentail oils are also 70 times more potent than dried herbs. For example, one drop of peppermint oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea. In contrast to some other essential oils on the market, doTERRA oils are Certified Pure Therapuetic Grade which means they are safe topically, internally and aromatically. There are no pesticides or any synthetic chemicals added. So you can feel confident in knowing doTERRA essential oils are safe for your family.
